When I flush the toilet I often hear a loud humming noise throughout the house, how can I fix this?

I left the house empty for about 4 months and this has happened since then. I've been back in the house now for about 3 months and still the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Could be a couple of things - Inlet valve rubber in side the cistern or loose washer in the isolation valve supplying the water to the cistern. Inlet valve - replacement of the rubber that sits on the seat of the inlet valve or replacement of the inlet valve in side the cistern Isolation valve - loose washer vibrating as water passes through into cistern - replace with non washer type.

Probably a worn ballvalve but could also be worn mains stopcock (sometimes.... if the water pressure is very high you can just adjust the main stopcoack, turn it down a bit and cure the problem) Hope this helps - further advice ring me.

If the water was turned of while the property was empty then turned on again it is more than likely that the main stopcock is opened too far. Turn the mains pressure down a bit by adjusting mains stopcock.
