27 Aug 2010
Installing a hot water geyser is not as difficult for a plumbing contractor, and can be done by you as well, but it is recommended that you have it completed by a plumbing contractor. Follow the steps below to install your geyser correctly without having to use a plumbing contractor.
Step 1
The tools and materials you will need are cinder blocks, pipe cutters, copper tubing, steel wool pads, solder, Teflon tape, conduit and a conduit connector, a ball valve and hand tools. You can also refer to your local plumbing contractor to find out what you will need.
Step 2
Create a platform for the geyser to rest on using 2 cinder blocks.
Step 3
Copper tubing must be cut to the length needed for the cold water supply to reach the geyser. A plumbing contractor will recommend that one end must be cleaned with steel wool and have flux applied, and then fit it on a female adapter fitting.
Step 4
Solder the female adapter to the male end of the fitting on the geyser. Use Teflon tape to wrap the pipe on to the water geyser.
Step 5
Solder the relief valve 4 inches above the surface after putting Teflon tape around the threads to stop any leaking. You can visit you local plumbing contractor to find out how to do this correctly.
Step 6
On top of the geyser is the knockout. Remove this with your hammer and a screwdriver, refer to a plumbing contractor for advice on how to do this properly. Place the conduit connector in and seal and tighten the knockout connector nut.
Step 7
Feed the electrical wiring though the conduit in to the tank. Connect up all of the electronics for the geyser and turn on the electrical power and water supply for the geyser.
